"Porreres is a municipality in the autonomous community of Islas Baleares, Spain. Located in the center-south of the island of Mallorca and belonging to the region of Pla de Mallorca. The year 2015 had a population of 5,267 registered inhabitants. Its extension is 86.84 km2. It limits with the municipalities of Llucmajor, Montuïri, Sant Joan, Vilafranca, Felanitx and Campos. The first settlements in Porreres date back to the Bronze Age and, later, it was occupied by Romans and Saracens. There are still several wells scattered around the town that date back to the Arab occupation and were used for both people and animals. The town was formally claimed by Aragon in 1300 and was given the name of the knight who reconquered it, Guillermo de Porrer. The other historic event worthy of mention occurred in 1868, when a small revolt, the Gloriosa, coincided with the fall of Queen Elizabeth II and resulted in the burning of the town hall which, unfortunately, contained 600 years of documented history.
